A Word About Security

The Mighty Layout Boys are now able to accept credit cards; however, at this time we do not have the capability to conduct secure credit card transactions. We know that security is important to you, so we're working to implement a secure order system. In the meantime, we're providing this information to help you decide how to use and protect your credit.

Secure And Unsecure Transactions

A secure transaction provides two forms of protection. First, in a secure transaction, our server would present your browser (such as Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator) with a digital "signature", which allows you to be sure that you're dealing with a legitimate server and not, for example, a hacker's machine. Then, once the server has established its credentials with your browser, an encrypted session is established between the browser and server, which ensures that sensitive data (such as your credit card number) cannot be intercepted while in transit between computers. An unsecure transaction does not provide these forms of protection. In an unsecure transaction there is a low, but not zero, risk that either a malicious user could intercept your sensitive data while it moves from your machine to ours; or the malicious user could set up a server that "spoofs" our server - in other words, setting up a machine that appears to be the MLB server, but in fact is not.

It's important to note that even a secure transaction does not protect your data once it arrives at our server. Further defensive measures are required to ensure that a hacker cannot break into the server machine and steal your data.

Steps We've Taken To Protect You

Although we feel that the risk of interception and spoofing is low (no higher than the risks involved in reading credit card numbers over the telephone or sending them in the mail - both of which are also vulnerable to interception), we understand that you'd prefer a higher level of security. Accordingly, we'restudying the implementation of a secure ordering system for your peace of mind. Additionally, we've taken steps to ensure the safety of your sensitive information once it arrives at our server. All ordering information is stored in encrypted form, so that in the unlikely event that a hacker gains access to our server, he will not be able to read your data. Also, only the minimum amount of data required to service your orders is kept on the server. Once the information is no longer required, it is archived or deleted.
